7 The Best Places to Visit in the North Carolina Mountains

The ridges of the North Carolina mountains may be some of the oldest mountains in the world, but they keep the spirit of youth alive by hosting activities ranging from art to ziplining. Set up your base camp on foot in one of these hill towns.

Known as the “Old North State,” North Carolina covers an area of more than 53,800 square miles in the northeastern United States. Virginia borders North Carolina to the north, Georgia and South Carolina to the south, Tennessee to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and is made up of three major topographic regions – the Appalachian Mountains, the central Piedmont Plateau, and the eastern Atlantic Coastal Plain.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it offers visitors exceptional food, wine, and shopping mecca: pedestrian guitarists, magicians playing tennis balls (with a dog on top), and clay.

Artists display dishes, jewelry, and organic yoga attire at street fairs. Downtown is home to stores, restaurants, bars, and indie music venues, including Orange Beginnings, hosted by Jack White, Bob Dylan, and Ice Cube.

Connected to French Broad, just a mile from downtown (frozen in freestanding tubes or paddleboards), the River Arts District serves as a workshop and gallery for North Carolina artists. Check out sophisticated textile mills searching for the perfect souvenir before lunch at the White Deck Tea Store.

With its interior, exterior, and gardens, Baltimore Estate attracts 1.7 million visitors each year to the south of the city. Enjoy Renoir and John Singer Sargent paintings, 16th-century prints by the Ming family, and ceramic cups. Check out the behind-the-scenes workspace, maid’s room, kitchen with original copper utensils, and the gym below (complex at the construction time, but by today’s standards). Bryson City

Bryson City – Top North Carolina mountains

With easy access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this small village has its outdoor roots within the city – organizers, fishing shops, and cool cafes. The Tuckasegee River runs through the area, indicating that this is the water country.

In the deep creek unit of the park, a few miles from downtown, hikers walk to three waterfalls while relaxing at Mother Nature Water Park. For $4 to $7 a day, you can rent a tube with 3-foot drops to ride through the gun and cascade. Ride, stand on the road, repeat. (Tip: Invest in a small dry bag for car keys if the whole family installs pipes; there’s a good chance you’ll be swimming.)

For dry landowners, the Tsali Recreation Area challenges mountain and horse cyclists on a 40-mile journey through forested hills and the shores of Lake Fontana. (Find bicycle rental service in the area.) You can also take horseback rides in Nantahala Village. If you need a break from all the activities:

1. Take the Great Smoky Mountain Train for a cruise through the Smokies.
2. Add your train to the nearby Nantahala Outdoor Center for adventure, or take a private beer and barbecue tour.
3. Spend half a day exploring the 43-mile Cherwala Skyways National High Bypass.
4. Grab the 5,560-foot Huckleberry Knob.

On the way back to town, enjoy concerts, festivals, outdoor movies, and other events all summer and fall.

The course begins with a climb up the Celo Knob, a sustained elevation gain of 3,000 feet in just 4 miles. Beyond the Celo Knob, the path passes through rocky, exposed hills and requires rock climbing.

However, the effort is not without reward. During the trip, hikers are greeted with beautiful views of the Mountains, Craggy Mountains, Mount Balsam the Great, and the Newfound Mountains.
